RWC 2027 Pool Stage Travel Plan: Nine Games, Four Cities, One Epic Adventure

rwc 2027 pool stage

The Rugby World Cup 2027 pool stage schedule is out, and if you’ve got the cash, the appetite, and no fear of airport departure lounges, this is the ultimate itinerary. Australia hosts the first 24-team edition of the tournament, and across just 17 days, you could watch nine extraordinary fixtures spanning Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle. Buckle up.

Your RWC 2027 Pool Stage Travel Plan Begins in Perth

Kick things off on Friday, 1st October at Perth Stadium as Australia face Hong Kong in what will almost certainly be a cricket score — but there is something electric about being present when a Rugby World Cup opens its doors for the first time. The Opening Ceremony alone is worth the flight. Then, rather than nursing a hangover in your hotel, drag yourself back to Perth Stadium the following afternoon as New Zealand take on Chile. Los Condores made their World Cup debut in 2023 and they do not lie down. Expect a whitewash, yes, but Chile play with adventure and flair that makes them compelling viewing.

Sunday, 3rd October takes you to Adelaide Oval — roughly three hours by air — for South Africa against Italy. Smack in the city centre, Adelaide Oval is one of sport’s great venues. The Springboks, two-time defending champions, are favourites, but they will not sleepwalk through this. Italy’s Six Nations performances in recent years prove they are no longer a soft touch, and they hold two wins over the Wallabies. Monday, 4th October sees you hop on a flight east to Sydney, where Andy Farrell’s Ireland face Portugal at the 42,500-capacity Sydney Football Stadium. The Irish expat presence Down Under should make this feel like a home fixture for the men in green.

Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle Round Out a Stunning Opening Fortnight

After four games in four days, treat yourself to a few days exploring New South Wales before returning to Stadium Australia on Saturday, 9th October for the standout pool fixture — Australia versus New Zealand. The 82,000-seat arena has staged some of Australia’s greatest sporting moments, and this adds another chapter. The following day presents a genuine dilemma: fly back to Perth for Ireland versus Scotland at Perth Stadium, or take the 90-minute trip to Brisbane Stadium for South Africa against Georgia. Scotland, under Gregor Townsend, will eventually end their World Cup losing streak against Ireland — could this be the moment? Meanwhile, Georgia’s Davit Niniashvili is exactly the type of electric outside back who can light up a stadium.

Monday, 11th October brings Newcastle Stadium and a potential tournament gem — Uruguay versus Portugal. Two free-running, attack-minded sides who play without fear. Expect a high-scoring spectacle with a festival atmosphere. Furthermore, the Hunter Valley and New South Wales north coast offer brilliant downtime before the final weekend. On Saturday, 16th October, England and Wales collide at Stadium Australia. Wales upset England in 2015 and would relish doing it again, though the English will start as heavy favourites. Finally, Sunday, 17th October closes the run with France versus Samoa at Sydney Football Stadium. Do not underestimate Samoa — they improve week on week, and if Les Bleus stutter, this fixture could be far tighter than the odds suggest.

Nine games. Four flights. Memories for a lifetime. Now start saving.
