Manchester United have shut the door on any fresh Marcus Rashford loan to Barcelona, with sources confirming the club will reject any new temporary arrangement for the 28-year-old forward. United want a permanent sale — full stop.
Marcus Rashford Barcelona Loan Door Firmly Closed
Barcelona had until 15 June to trigger a €30 million permanent purchase option for Rashford, but they let that deadline pass without acting. As a result, Rashford is now expected to report back to United’s Carrington training ground after his post-World Cup break. Sources speaking to ESPN make it clear that any fresh loan bid from the Catalan club will be flatly turned down. United’s position is non-negotiable — they want a realistic, permanent proposal on the table or nothing at all.
Interestingly, Rashford himself hasn’t given up on a return to Camp Nou. He had a solid enough season in Spain, scoring 14 goals in 49 appearances as Hansi Flick’s side lifted the La Liga title. But Barcelona’s thinking has shifted dramatically since then.
Anthony Gordon Transfer Kills Barcelona’s Interest
The reason for Barcelona’s change of heart is straightforward. The Spanish club agreed an €80 million deal to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, and that signing has fundamentally altered how they value Rashford. With Gordon likely to start ahead of him next season, Barcelona see Rashford as a squad option — and they certainly don’t value a squad player at €30 million. The numbers stopped making sense the moment Gordon signed.
Furthermore, Barcelona’s decision has created a real headache for United’s summer transfer planning. The Red Devils need a left winger — Rashford’s best position — and have identified West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville as a target. United also hold an interest in Summerville’s West Ham teammate Mateus Fernandes. With the window moving fast, Old Trafford’s recruitment team need solutions and they need them quickly.
United have set a £40 million valuation on Rashford, though it’s worth noting that neither Liverpool nor Manchester City can trigger a release clause for the forward. The summer is far from over, but right now Rashford’s future looks genuinely uncertain — and United aren’t blinking first.
