Kevin Vallejos has officially gatecrashed the featherweight rankings after delivering a savage first-round demolition of Josh Emmett that left the MMA world buzzing. The Argentine destroyer’s featherweight rankings debut comes on the back of perhaps the most impressive knockout we’ve seen in the 145-pound division this year.
Vallejos Featherweight Rankings Entry Shakes Up Division
At just 24 years old, Kevin Vallejos has turned the featherweight division on its head with four straight UFC victories, three of which ended in spectacular knockouts. Saturday’s destruction of Josh Emmett wasn’t just another win – it was a statement that sent shockwaves through the upper echelons of the 145-pound ranks.
The 18-1 Argentinian didn’t just beat Emmett; he obliterated a longtime top-10 stalwart who’d been holding down his ranking spot for years. That dominant performance was enough to catapult Vallejos straight into the latest ESPN divisional rankings, booting Emmett out of the top 10 entirely.
Robertson Climbs Strawweight Ladder
Meanwhile, the women’s strawweight division saw its own shuffle as Gillian Robertson continued her relentless march up the rankings. The Canadian submission specialist outpointed Amanda Lemos via unanimous decision, extending her winning streak to five fights and leapfrogging her opponent in the process.
Robertson now sits at number six in the strawweight rankings, whilst Lemos drops to seventh. It’s the kind of ranking movement that shows just how competitive the women’s 115-pound division has become.
Consequently, Saturday’s UFC Fight Night proved once again that rankings battles can be just as brutal as title fights. Both Vallejos and Robertson seized their moments when the lights were brightest, and now they’re reaping the rewards with improved positioning in their respective divisions. The featherweight and strawweight ladders just got a lot more interesting, and both fighters will be eyeing even bigger scalps in their next outings.
