Sean Strickland did not fight at UFC Freedom 250, but the UFC middleweight champion made his presence felt in Washington all week long — perhaps a little too felt. On Sunday evening, Strickland attempted to walk into the UFC’s fan festival on The Ellipse, and within minutes, the whole thing kicked off.
Sean Strickland Evacuation Causes Chaos at UFC Freedom 250
At around 7 p.m. — a full two hours before the main card got underway — a surge of fans rushed toward Strickland the moment they clocked him at the event. The United States Park Police confirmed to ESPN that his presence was entirely unplanned, and that the crowd reaction created genuine disorder. Personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Park Police, and several assisting agencies stepped in and pulled Strickland out of the venue. He was transported back to his hotel without further incident.
The Park Police’s public statement was blunt: “The unplanned presence of Sean Strickland drew significant attention from attendees, resulting in disorder.” That’s one way to put it. Another way? The man walked into a fan festival unannounced and nearly caused a riot.
Fans Left Shaken — and Strickland Thought He Was Getting a Fine
Meanwhile, one fan caught the whole thing up close. Jaclyn Cruz, a 26-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee, managed to grab a video of Strickland and attempted to say hello before watching him get escorted out entirely. “After I saw that, I was shaking,” Cruz said. “It was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m living like a fever dream right now.'”
Strickland, for his part, took to Instagram Stories afterwards and thanked supporters for backing him throughout the week. He also suggested he might have been cited for disorderly conduct — but that turned out not to be the case. The Park Police confirmed he faced no citation and no arrest. He was, however, firmly advised not to come back to the venue, for his own safety as much as anyone else’s.
Ultimately, this is peak Strickland. He wasn’t booked. He wasn’t supposed to be there. He just showed up — and somehow still became the most talked-about name of the entire fight week. That’s a rare kind of magnetism, even if the UFC and the authorities probably could have done without it on the night.
