Michael Chiesa Retirement: UFC Veteran Hangs Up Gloves After 22nd Fight

Michael Chiesa retirement plans will come to fruition this Saturday night in Seattle, as the 38-year-old welterweight prepares for his final walk to the octagon. The Washington native faces Niko Price on the main card of UFC Fight Night, marking the end of a career that has spanned over a decade inside the cage.

Chiesa’s Final Fight Carries Deep Family Significance

Despite riding a three-fight winning streak since August 2024, Chiesa (19-7) has made peace with his decision to step away. The veteran’s choice stems from a deeply personal connection to his late grandfather, motorsports legend Darrell Triber, who died racing at 67 years old.

“He promoted [motorcycle races]. He’s in the [Inland Empire] Hall of Fame for fast-track racing. He had a big impact on Evel Knievel’s career,” Chiesa explained. “He was my hero growing up, and he died racing his motorcycle. He wasn’t supposed to be racing. Ultimately, it took his life.”

Moreover, the timing couldn’t be more symbolic. This marks Chiesa’s 22nd UFC bout – the same number his grandfather raced under and which now adorns his chest tattoo and wedding ring.

Perfect Storm of Circumstances Points to Retirement

Furthermore, Saturday’s date holds additional meaning as his parents’ anniversary falls on March 28th. “The universe is kind of telling me, ‘make this the last one,'” Chiesa noted, acknowledging the confluence of meaningful dates.

Having not competed since his decision victory over Court McGee in June 2025, Chiesa recognises this main card spot represents the biggest platform available at this stage of his career. Whilst he worked his way to potential title contention at both lightweight and welterweight, a UFC championship opportunity ultimately eluded him.

Nevertheless, Chiesa’s legacy remains secure. Fighting at home provides the perfect bookend to a career built on determination and heart. “I don’t want to stick around too long and have parts of me taken away that I’ll never get back,” he reflected, echoing the wisdom learned from his grandfather’s fate.

Saturday night in Seattle will witness the final chapter of a true warrior’s journey – one that began with dreams and ends with dignity intact.
