Antonio Rüdiger Signs Real Madrid Contract Extension Until 2027

Real Madrid have handed Antonio Rüdiger a one-year contract extension, keeping the German centre back at the Bernabéu until 2027. The club confirmed the deal on Tuesday, rescuing Rüdiger from what would have been a free exit at the end of this month. At 33, he is not slowing down — and Madrid clearly agree.

Antonio Rüdiger Contract Extension Caps a Transformative Summer at the Bernabéu

This renewal is no isolated decision. It arrives amid a full-scale rebuild at Madrid following two trophyless campaigns. José Mourinho has already been confirmed as head coach for a second stint at the club, replacing the departed Álvaro Arbeloa. Furthermore, Marc Cucurella has arrived from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial €55 million, with ESPN reporting that Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva will all follow. Konaté and Silva are expected to join as free agents when their respective contracts with Liverpool and Manchester City expire, while Madrid plan to trigger a €20 million clause to prise Dumfries away from Inter Milan.

Rüdiger himself brings serious pedigree to this evolving squad. He came through at VfB Stuttgart, moved to Roma in 2015 — initially on loan before signing permanently in 2016 — and then landed at Chelsea in 2017. At Stamford Bridge, he lifted the Champions League in 2021, before departing as a free agent and joining Madrid in 2022.

182 Appearances and Eight Trophies — Rüdiger’s Madrid Legacy Grows

Since arriving in the Spanish capital, Rüdiger has made 182 appearances and collected eight trophies. That haul includes LaLiga and the Champions League in 2024, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2023. He has been a constant under a succession of coaches, anchoring the defensive line with a blend of physicality and composure that few defenders his age can match. BBC Sport have tracked his continued prominence at the highest level throughout his career.

Consequently, extending his deal was a straightforward call. With Mourinho rebuilding from the back and a wave of new arrivals incoming, Rüdiger’s experience and winning mentality make him as valuable as ever. The Bernabéu faithful will be delighted — and rightly so.
