Evloev Edges Murphy in London Thriller, Calls Out Volkanovski Next

evloev edges murphy

Movsar Evloev edges Murphy by majority decision at the O2 Arena, silencing the London faithful and positioning himself perfectly for a featherweight title shot. The undefeated Russian weathered early pressure from Manchester’s Lerone Murphy to claim a hard-fought victory that keeps his perfect record intact.

Evloev Edges Murphy Despite Point Deduction Drama

What a bloody war this turned out to be. Evloev (20-0) had to dig deep when referee Marc Goddard docked him a point for low blows in the fourth round, but the Dagestani showed championship mettle to close out the fight convincingly. Two judges saw it 48-46 for Evloev, whilst the third scored a 47-47 draw – enough to hand Murphy (17-1-1) his first professional defeat.

The crowd at the O2 Arena came expecting fireworks, and they got them. Murphy started like a man possessed, but Evloev’s superior grappling and surprisingly sharp striking gradually took control. The Russian landed 124 total strikes to Murphy’s 89 and dominated the wrestling exchanges, completing nine of his ten takedown attempts.

Furthermore, Evloev proved he’s more than just a grappler. “I told you I’m going to strike with him,” he declared post-fight. “Look at his face, he’s damaged. I showed that I don’t necessarily need to use my wrestling.”

Title Shot Beckons for Undefeated Contender

The victory sets up a mouth-watering clash with featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski. Evloev didn’t waste time making his intentions clear: “Alex mentioned my name a lot of times. I accept this challenge. Let’s fight. UFC, there is no excuse to not let me fight for the title.”

Meanwhile, Murphy showed class in defeat despite suffering a hip injury in the third round. “Sorry, London fans. Sorry to let you down,” the Mancunian said, even backing Evloev for the title shot. That’s the kind of respect you earn through proper warfare.

Riley Dominates on Home Soil

In addition to the main event drama, Liverpool’s Luke Riley delivered a masterclass against American Michael Aswell. The Next Generation MMA prospect improved to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the UFC with a unanimous 30-27 across all three scorecards. Riley rated his own performance just 5 out of 10 – imagine what this lad can do when he’s firing on all cylinders.

However, teammate Shem Rock couldn’t match Riley’s success, falling to Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady by decision to drop to 0-2 in the promotion.
